About

From Málaga, Tech Lead at Renterus. I like building things that are actually useful, the kind that make your day easier without you noticing, at work and outside it.

How I started

I started my degree in application development without knowing what code was. At first everything was easy, because it was the introduction, but things kept getting harder and more convoluted, to the point where I understood nothing. And then you’d get your first HTML page working with JavaScript, your first calculator, or your first Android app up and running, and it was like a dopamine rush. That’s when I got hooked.

Then came my first experience at a company, with Laravel and Angular, and in late 2023, Renterus. I joined as a full-stack developer focused on the mobile app, and today I lead the product’s technology.

How I lead

My job starts before the code: understanding what the business needs and explaining it to the team in a way that makes sense. What we build, why, and in what order. Then it’s about staying close without hovering: watching how things evolve, correcting course when something drifts and finding a way out when it gets complicated.

  • I lead from the code. I still write code every day. It’s hard to make good technical decisions from a distance.
  • I support and unblock. If someone is stuck, my job is to get them unstuck: context, help or whatever it takes.
  • I decide and explain why. When a decision is needed, I make it and make sure everyone understands why. That way the solution is found and built together.
  • Nobody is indispensable, me included. If something only I know, that’s a problem, not an achievement.

Outside work

Training takes up a good part of my day. I like the consistency it takes and seeing myself progress.

I enjoy programming, and when I get into it, time flies. When I see something repeating, I need to find a way to make it easier. That’s how Traindía and Añakleta came about, and since they work for me, I publish them in case they work for someone else. Many of them run on a small homelab I have at home.

I also play games when I find the time, though less and less. And what never goes away is going out for a drink with people: a terrace, good conversation and losing track of time.
