I build products and the teams that sustain them.
Raúl Márquez. I lead technology at Renterus, a SaaS platform and business network for vacation-rental management. I define the architecture and the services, and I still write code every day.
Understand before coding
Before writing a line, I want to know what problem we're solving and for whom. The solution often comes from asking that question well.
Product before technology
Technology is chosen for what it solves for the people using the product, not for hype.
Simple first
Before adding a library, a layer or a new service, I ask whether it's really needed. Simple things are easier to understand, fail less and cost less to maintain. Complexity has to earn its place.
If it repeats, automate it
When something gets done by hand again and again, I find a way to make it run on its own. It's one of the things I enjoy most.
Small changes, serious review
I'd rather have many small, well-reviewed changes than one huge change nobody understands.
One failure shouldn't take down the rest
I design assuming something will fail. If one piece goes down, the rest of the product has to keep working.
